'Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer FssR' - Open Letter to Catholic Bishops, Priests, Religious and Faithful.

Further to recent posts  dealing with the dispute in Christchurch, New Zealand, between the Redemptorist Congregation 'The Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer' (FssR) and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch,   readers may already be aware that the Redemptorists lodged an appeal with the Vatican against the Bishop's decision  to expel them, and have since learnt that they have lost their appeal.

Following a recent meeting of the Chapter, at Golgotha Monastery, Papa Stronsay, Orkney, Fr Michael Mary FssR , Major Rector, has just issued the following official  response to latest events, which I post below.

Every one therefore that shall confess Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father Who is in Heaven. But he that shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father Who is in Heaven.(Matt. 10:32)

Dear Faithful,

Live Jesus our love and Mary our hope!

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we write to you. What unites us is our great love for our Holy Mother, the Catholic Church and Bride of Jesus Christ, for whom the martyrs shed their blood and the saints gave their lives. It is this love that forces us to express a truth that is difficult, however essential. (Lk. 12: 4-9)

Just like you, we too have cherished great hope for many years. We believed it was possible to live as faithful children of the Tradition within the structures of the modern Church. We believed that the old and beautiful traditions of our Faith, in particular the Latin Mass of all times, would be rightfully returned to us. This gave us hope, especially during the time of Benedict XVI. We confidently expected that we would be able to freely practise the Faith of our Fathers in the Church. We didn’t know how wrong we were!

Through years of trials and experience we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that the Traditional Catholic Faith, the Faith of all times and of the saints, is incompatible with the new, modern Church, the fruit of the Second Vatican Council. They simply cannot coexist in one body.

Since we deeply cherish and honour the Traditional Latin Mass and cannot give up the Holy Mass of the centuries and of the saints, this new Church does not want us. Because of our fidelity, we have been considered stubborn, difficult and rebellious; stitched up and lied about in never-ending acrimony.

This letter appeals to all who sense that something is tremendously wrong in the Church or who think that the new Church and the unchanging Faith can peacefully coexist. Alas! Allow us to state the sad truth that our experience clearly shows this to be impossible. Surely this new Church would shock all the holy Popes who declared time and again that Religious Indifferentism is a very great evil, absolutely incompatible with the Catholic Faith.

We tell you, we will not be complicit by silence in this ongoing destruction of the Church. We must speak up at some time and what better time than now? After 17 years as a community within the structures of the Church, we have been continually isolated and harassed. More especially these last years the Bishop of Christchurch has made us to be as the offscouring or scum of the earth. By his numerous Decrees and recourse to Rome he has sought to expel our monks from the diocese. He wants to have fifteen local vocations perpetually exiled from their families and homeland. We tell you now, higher duty forbids it. So long as there is but one soul that asks us for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Sacraments or spiritual help, with God’s grace we will not desert it. The Good Shepherd urges us to lay down our lives for His sheep and keep the hungry wolf at bay. It is our duty in charity, in theology and by Canon Law.

Why? Because the chain of command has been broken. Authority in the Church is ministerial (serving Our Lord), not absolute (doing whatever it likes): it binds us because it is itself bound to Christ, to the deposit of the Faith, to the constant Magisterium. When a superior departs from his own obedience to Christ the King, his command is no longer the arm of Christ but the gesture of a man. (S.T., IIa IIæ, q. 104, a. 5) These churchmen disobey God. And then, having shattered the chain of God’s command they attempt to invoke religious obedience for matters that deplete the Church, and take away the Holy Mass. Tolle Missam, Tolle Ecclesiam – Take away the Mass, you destroy the Church (Luther). No! We must obey God before Man.

And therefore, cleaving with might and main to our deep communion with our Holy Mother the Church, our duty before our Lord Jesus Christ and towards souls demands that:

We repudiate 'Amoris Laetitia' permitting Holy Communion to couples living in sin.

We repudiate 'Traditionis Custodes’      persecution of the Mass and Catholics.

We repudiate 'Fiducia Supplicans' permitting the blessing of same-sex couples.

We repudiate “The Document on Human Fraternity” stating that God wills all religions.

We repudiate the false theology of “sister churches” and “partial communion”.

We repudiate the false shepherds who triumphantly processed the Pachamama idol in St Peter’s.

We repudiate Francis apologising for the heroic Catholic who threw that idol into the Tiber.

We repudiate the scourge of religious indifference in New Zealand and throughout the Church.

We repudiate the New Zealand Bishops’ acts of closing churches, and denying the sacraments in cowardly submission to the Covid-19 oppression.

We repudiate the Bishop of Christchurch receiving his ashes on Ash Wednesday from the Anglican bishop of Christchurch.

We repudiate the corruption of children, and scandal given to the innocent through evil catechetical programs.

We repudiate Francis teaching that all religions are as different languages, and asking “Is my God more important than yours?”

We repudiate the silence of those bishops who failed to speak out against that betrayal of the Faith.

We repudiate the Synodal Church as distinct from the Divinely constituted Catholic Church.

We repudiate the ongoing destruction and humiliation of our Holy Mother the Church.

We repudiate those who attack or undermine the Church in her dogma, morals, sacraments, or discipline with a new cult of man.

To all who read this: How long will all this nonsense go on?
Whatever may be the cost to us, with the Apostle we must say: Anathema!

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema. As we said before, so now I say again: If any one preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him be anathema.” (Gal. 1:8-9)

Do not remain silent! Defend the Faith of our Fathers!

“Although all nations obey King Antiochus, so as to depart every man from the law of his father and consent to his commandments: I and my sons and my brethren will obey the law of our fathers.” (1 Maccabees 2:19-20)

“On the contrary, it is written (Acts 5:29): We ought to obey God rather than men. Now sometimes the things commanded by a superior are against God. Therefore, superiors are not to be obeyed in all things.” — St. Thomas Aquinas (S.T., IIa IIæ, q. 104, a. 5)

Expecta Dominum, Viriliter Age et Confortetur cor tuum.
Expect the Lord, do manfully, and let thy heart take courage. (Ps 26:14)

Gaude, Maria Virgo… Rejoice, O Virgin Mary; thou alone hast crushed all heresies in the whole world.

Urgent Warning. WHO has quietly re-written International Health Regulations. Oppose UK support - sign Petition below before 18 July 2025.

The World Health Organization is trying to expand its authority through dangerous amendments to the International Health Regulations.

If accepted, these changes could pressure governments to impose lockdowns, vaccine mandates, censorship, and surveillance — all without a vote in Parliament.

The UK has until 19 July 2025 to reject these amendments and protect national sovereignty.

Sign the petition now to demand that the Prime Minister and Health Secretary take immediate action to opt out.

SIGN THE PETITION

After CitizenGO’s global pushback forced the WHO to strip some of the most authoritarian and far-reaching powers from the Pandemic Agreement, you’d think they would have backed down.

But rather than accept defeat or respect the will of the people whose lives they seek to control, the WHO is now trying to restore those same powers by rewriting the International Health Regulations (IHR).

Determined to bypass public resistance, the WHO has rewritten the International Health Regulations to include sweeping new powers that:

  • Make it easier to enforce lockdowns and travel restrictions around the world as part of a top-down global response, with no regard for individual rights or national sovereignty
  • Establish an international expectation that member states will impose vaccine mandates during any future WHO-declared “pandemic emergency,” all in the name of global solidarity and fulfilling international obligations
  • Will censor free speech and lawful viewpoints, especially from those who question official narratives or raise legitimate concerns about government measures
  • Expand international powers to collect and share personal health data, potentially paving the way for digital IDs and global tracking systems in the name of “preparedness”
  • Blur the line between international advice and domestic law, prompting governments to adopt WHO policies, even when they go against local interests or public opposition
  • Create a precedent for future non-health-related 'emergencies' — such as climate or information threats — to be treated as justification for similar sweeping controls

When the UK joined the International Health Regulations in 2005, it accepted that amendments adopted by the World Health Assembly would take effect automatically, unless a formal rejection is issued within 10 months under Article 59.

As the IHR amendments were adopted on 1 June 2024, the UK has until 19 July 2025 to reject them. If no action is taken, they will come into force by default without a public vote, without a parliamentary debate, and without your consent.

This power grab must not go unchallenged!

We’ve already proven that pressure works.

Thanks to the efforts of millions of CitizenGO supporters worldwide, some of the most serious threats to national sovereignty and personal freedom were removed from the final Pandemic Agreement.

Your sustained pressure also led to the inclusion of a vital sovereignty clause in the final text, which makes clear that governments are under no legal obligation to follow the demands of unelected globalist bureaucrats at the WHO or UN.

Now we must bring that same determination to the fight against the IHR amendments. The UK government can still opt out, but will only do so if we make our opposition known.

Please sign the petition now to urge the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, and Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, to reject the IHR amendments immediately.

What makes the IHR amendments more dangerous is that they are being introduced alongside the Pandemic Agreement.

Together, the IHR amendments and the Pandemic Agreement form a coordinated strategy to shift power away from elected governments and into the hands of unelected globalists operating through the WHO and the UN.

  1. The IHR amendments give the WHO new processes and powers to declare a “pandemic emergency” and exert pressure on national governments to comply with its international recommendations.
  2. The Pandemic Agreement pressures countries to align their decision-making, budgets, and emergency systems with WHO-led coordination whenever a “pandemic emergency” has been declared. This includes sharing data, medical supplies, and financial resources.

While not legally binding, these instruments create strong international expectations and political pressure to conform. That pressure could give bad governments a ready-made script to justify lockdowns, vaccine mandates, censorship, or other extreme measures while blaming “international obligations” or pointing to “global solidarity.”

You helped change the course of the Pandemic Agreement.

But now, dangerous new IHR amendments threaten to undo the freedoms we fought so hard for.

This is our moment to protect freedom again.

Add your name to our petition to urge the UK government to reject the WHO’s latest power grab.

Brian, you and I have seen firsthand what so-called 'emergency powers' can do.

We lived through lockdowns, vaccine mandates, the banning of church services and more.

Now imagine it happening all over again — not by your government’s choice, but on the orders of a globalist bureaucrat at the WHO.

That is exactly what the IHR amendments could make possible, unless we stop them.

Help stop history from repeating itself. Sign the petition now and reject this global power grab.

Thank you for standing with me once more,

Sebastian Lukomski and the entire CitizenGO team

P.S. I know this stuff is dense, and staying on top of it all can be exhausting. But you and I? We don’t get to check out – not if we care about freedom.

Because 19 July is the deadline.

That’s when these amendments to the IHR will automatically pass without a national vote or parliamentary scrutiny.

Just silence from your government, and boom, it's done.

But there’s time to give these WHO radicals a BOOM of our own! Just one letter from your leaders is all it takes.

We’ll be hand-delivering this petition to Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP and Wes Streeting MP in the coming days. Please ensure your name is on the petition.

'Casting Out the Myth. Did we Perform illegal Exorcisms?'

Casting out the M

Dear Readers,

This post continues to publicise the facts behind the apparently unjust, unwarranted, and grossly inappropriate 'punishment' imposed on the 'Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer', also known as the 'Transalpine Redemptorists', by the Bishop of Christchurch, New Zealand, Bishop Michael Gielen. This 'punishment', seemingly based on 'allegations' rather than facts, and showing in the process a somewhat careless disregard for the letter of both Canon and Common law, has resulted in the complete banning of several priests and brothers from the diocese of Christchurch, which includes their monastic home, and also the banning (temporarily suspended) of religious 'sisters', all of whom priests, brothers, and sisters, had a pivotal role in the spiritual life of their parish, which was established several years ago, with the blessing of the then incumbent Bishop, and which has developed over the years, with recent Sunday Mass attendances running into three figures. The parish is run on traditional lines with liturgy based on the traditional Latin Mass.

A broader report of this whole matter can be seen in earlier posts on this blogsite, immediately preceding this.

  Editor.

(Continued from previous posts written by Fr Michael Mary FssR, Rector Major of the "Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer")

 February 03 2025

The Apostolic Visitator, Bishop Robert McGuckin of Australia, and the Chancellor of Christchurch Diocese had an informal meeting with Fr Michael Mary before the Visitation interviews began.  Fr Michael Mary asked what the Visitation was about.  “The television programmes,” he was told.  Thus, by inference, it was about the supposed illegal exorcisms that were their focus.

The priest who had supposedly carried out these illegal exorcisms was absent, recovering from an extremely grave, life-threatening medical condition.  The Visitator was content not to interview him, which is strange given that these supposed illegal exorcisms were one of the primary focuses of the Visitation.  In fact, exorcisms were never brought up in any of the Visitator’s interviews.

From the Visitator’s report: “Some exorcisms performed by FSSR priests in the past may have been approved but others seem not to have been.”  Given that exorcisms, legal or otherwise, were not spoken about during any of our interviews with the Visitator, and that he didn’t interview the priest who supposedly performed them, one wonders how he managed even to come to this weak conclusion.

The truth is that not all exorcisms are equal.  The respected Dominican moral theologians Frs. Charles Callan & John McHugh say: “Exorcisms are…of two kinds, the solemn and the private [aka major & minor]. The former are…reserved to clerics who have a special and express permission from the Ordinary [Bishop]. The latter kind may [in certain circumstances] be made even by members of the laity….It is recommended that priests frequently use private exorcisms, at least secretly, for persons who are vexed by temptations or scruples.”

Auxiliary Bishop Julian Porteous of Sydney, Australia says in his introduction to a 2010 manual of minor exorcisms: “Minor exorcisms can be a normal part of the ministry of priests and are used to assist people in the spiritual struggle, particularly in the case of oppression.”  The author, Fr Healey explains: “A part, an important part, of the ordinary ministry of a priest is the role of utilising prayers of minor exorcism to meet the spiritual needs of the faithful.” These require no permission.

We had full, written faculties for the cases of Solemn Exorcism our priests performed from three Ordinaries of Christchurch diocese (two Bishops and an Administrator).  There is no “may have been approved” about it.  The faculties will be in the diocesan archives for inspection or could have been provided by us, had we been asked.

All other similar prayers performed by our priests were the minor exorcisms mentioned above, which do not require the permission of a Bishop and are considered by all to be a potential part of the normal ministry of a Catholic priest.

This distinction is, at this stage, unacknowledged.

It would be extremely constructive and advantageous if all those who claim to have had an exorcism came forward and their paperwork could be examined and verified.  In this way the “may have been...” and the “seem not to have been...” could be entirely cleared up.  One might be forgiven for thinking that this would have been done during the Visitation.  Vague and unspecific statements and accusations are very dangerous.

The extravagant claims in the media (such as that we beat a pregnant woman to get the devil out of her) are inventions of pure fantasy.  If only the Visitator had troubled himself to ask us about them.
